There’s currently a <span style="color:#00b050"> rather poor selection of <b>fonts</b> on <i>Android</i></span>: so, are no **<span style="font-weight:bold; color:#c00000">custom fonts</span>** possible in Obsidian?
(By the way, this is a big, perhaps the biggest weakness *in Dynalist as well* – one of the *few* weaknesses of Dynalist. Dynalist offers only a handful of fonts, and what is worse, quite a few of them are *buggy* when displaying *non-English* text, featuring *diacritic* letters – particularly their *italic* variety.)
Generally, I dislike **non-serif** fonts; there are *some* that I do like (such as **<span style="font-weight:bold; color:#ff8c00">Futura</span>**), but they are currently *not* available in Obsidian for Android.
#### <span style="color:#00b0f0">Current <i>non-serif</i> fonts in Obsidian for Android</span>
From among the non-serif fonts that *are* available on Android, I really like **Monaco**, but it appears that it doesn’t support **bold**, and so I had to discard it (I picked **Inter** instead, but don’t really like it all that much, because it seems to be a clone of the dull Arial font).
I also like **Source Code Pro**, but it’s not suitable for *general* text (I did set it up for – you guessed it – viewing *source code*).
Samsung’s **Rosemary** font is superb: I use it as the default font in many apps on my Samsung phone – but perhaps it’s proprietary, and so unavailable for use in Obsidian? 🤔
- What’s weird is that even some of my Samsung *tablets* don’t make it possible to download the Rosemary font… 😮 (In short, Rosemary appears to be available for *some* Samsung devices, but *not all* of them, even though *all* of my Samsung devices fall into the “flaghsip” category.)
#### <span style="color:#00b0f0">Current <i>serif</i> fonts in Obsidian for Android</span>
None of the *serif* fonts currently available in Obsidian for Android really seem suitable.
I would very much appreciate if, for example, the outstanding **<span style="font-weight:bold; color:#ff8c00">American Typewriter</span>** font were available on Android, just like it is on the iPad!
But because *American Typewriter* has trouble displaying **bold font** distinctly on a dark background, I ended up with the sans-serif *Futura* as the main Obsidian app font on my iPads, and I'm happy with it. I wish I could use *Futura* in Obsidian apps on my Android devices, too! It's in the fonts selection menu on my Android devices, but even if I select it as my *only* font, *Futura* refuses to get displayed on my Android devices.
Other outstanding *serif* fonts include the likes of <b><span style="color:#ff8c00">Merriweather</span></b>, <span style="font-weight:bold; color:#ff8c00">Bookerly</span>, <b><span style="color:#ff8c00">Clarendon</span></b>, <span style="font-weight:bold; color:#ff8c00">Sanchez</span>, **<span style="font-weight:bold; color:#ff8c00">Arvo</span>**, and **<span style="font-weight:bold; color:#ff8c00">Volkhov</span>**.
#### <span style="color:#d2b48c">My fonts in Obsidian for Windows</span>
In case you’re wondering, in Obisdian for Windows desktop, my main font is **<span style="font-weight:bold; color:#ff8c00">Bookman Old Style</span>** – a very nice and legible one, too.
*And* in case you’re wondering, my font for the source code on Windows is **<span style="font-weight:bold; color:#ff8c00">Fixedsys Excelsior 3.01</span>** (a hidden gem!).
Plus, quite outrageously, my font for the Windows Obsidian interface is **<span style="font-weight:bold; color:#ff8c00">Copperplate Gothic</span>** (yup, that’s the “small caps” font). 😂
#### <span style="color:#00b050">Resolving the issue?</span>
I found an [Obsidian forum thread](https://forum.obsidian.md/t/adding-a-custom-font-to-android-ios/68045) dealing with this issue, but the proposed solution seems so complicated I don’t dare to employ it.
I think Obsidian on all platforms should make it possible to easily install additional **custom fonts**. Other apps can do it, so why not Obsidian?
If this cannot easily be implemented in the near future, please at least *expand* the current selection of fonts on Android.
(For the use of custom fonts, such as *Google fonts*, on an Obsidian **Publish** website, please go to: [[Google Fonts to experiment with on AveNotes (in Obsidian Publish)|Google fonts to experiment with in Obsidian Publish]].)
